Cape Town - Trust the internet to bring an arbitrary hashtag to life.

On a day when Oscar Pistorius and student protests dominated the headlines, an unlikely subject found itself on top of South Africa’s trending Twitter topics on Tuesday.

By 10:00 on Tuesday, the hashtag #ScaryStoryIn5Words beat out #oscarpistorius to the top spot in South Africa's Twitterverse, and by 14:00, had garnered over 3 000 tweets.

Twitter users chimed in with the best their wits could offer, tweeting some of their most feared and awkward scenarios.

Some were humourous, others serious, and others about the big news of the day. Even Donald Trump got a few mentions.
