A PIETERMARITZBURG K9 Unit-led operation led to the arrest of a Whoonga dealer carrying 2 000 Whoonga straws on Friday afternoon.

Pietermaritzburg SAPS spokesperson Constable Mthokozisi Ngobese said an undercover operation to crack down on drugs and crime led the SAPS to the infamous eMatsheni Beer Hall where they found a man in possession of the Whoonga straws.

He said the straws’ street value came to R20 000 and the man was immediately arrested.

“The man will appear at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow [Monday] morning.”

He said the Pietermaritzburg cluster commander Major-General Lucas Ngobeni was pleased with the arrest and commended those involved on a job well done.

“We want to assure the community that the operation is ongoing and we will not stop until all the drug dealers and criminals are off our streets,” said Ngobese, who can be reached on 082 826 8954
