Cape Town - The SA Weather Service has warned Western Cape residents to prepare for a cold and wet week.

Two cold fronts are moving over the region this week, with the first having arrived on Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and cold weather, reported Eyewitness News.

A second cold front would arrive on Wednesday and cold conditions were forecast for Thursday.

The SA Weather Service on Wednesday morning issued a warning to residents of the Western Cape to expect gale-force winds, very cold conditions and heavy rain.

The warning specified that gale-force north-westerly winds of about 70km/h would blow between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas with very rough sea swells of between 4m and 6m expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.

Meanwhile, warm and windy conditions have been forecast for other parts of the country ahead of the cold front, which will bring cold weather to Gauteng by the weekend.

A forecaster said the cold fronts would bring autumn weather to the region.
