Witnesses remember concert tragedy

2012-11-09 08:25

Cape Town - Witnesses of the Linkin Park concert tragedy described their experiences of the disaster outside Cape Town Stadium, which left one person dead and about 19 injured.

The husband of the 33-year-old woman, identified as Florentina Heaven-Popa, said he was considering legal action, reported the Cape Argus.

Heaven-Popa worked as training and quality assurance manager at the One&Only, a super-luxury Kerzner International hotel at the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Argus said.

She was originally from Romania and had moved to Cape Town six years ago after falling in love with the city.

Nicole Barlow, who had been handing out energy drink samples earlier that day said she had been standing between the two towers that later fell over.

Barlow later wrote on Facebook: “Still can’t believe what happened. Knowing that you were 5cm away from possibly being killed is crazy.”

Fellow concertgoer and nurse Justine Butler told Eyewitness News how she tried to help the woman who eventually died.

“She was probably the first person that I came up to. She was right in front of me in the ground and she had serious injuries.”

You can only sue if you can prove negligence. Apprently the tower was inspected and passed by engineers prior to the event.

Yes that is true, however there was a warning report that morning about 50km/h winds and the site inspector should have realized how strong the winds were and should have taken it down. there is a reason warnings are given and there is a reason site inspectors are there. this guy just wasn't doing his job and because of that one girl has had to lose her life. i walked pasted that scaffolding not 20 minutes before it fell over, its scary to think that could have been me. but at the same time i still turned and told a friend of mine that it should be taken down because some could get hurt and look what happened.
