Woman, 2 kids killed on train tracks

2012-02-07 12:34

Cape Town - A woman and her two children were killed when they stood in front of an oncoming train outside Eerste River on Tuesday morning, Metrorail said.

"They stood right in the middle of the track and we suspect it may have been suicide," regional manager Lindelo Matya said.

"It is suspicious that it happened at 05:00 when it's slightly dark and in an area that people don't normally cross."

He said trains bound for Strand were affected, as they had to be re-routed to one line.

An inquest docket had been opened by the police.

  • KyleAssassin - 2012-02-07 12:46

Leave the children out of your problems, please!

      Janice - 2012-02-07 12:47

I agree completely, what a selfish act!

      richard.hipkin - 2012-02-07 13:05

And the train driver will have to live with that for the rest of his life!

      nicolene.kotze1 - 2012-02-07 13:56

who are these idiots that "unlike" these comments??!!!!

      Garth - 2012-02-07 15:16

Probably the same idiots that `thumb upped' my comment below.

      Vermie - 2012-02-07 15:27

Agreed. Parents need to realise kids will always find a way to survive. Mothers and Fathers killing their own is beyond comprehension @nicolene. Dislike*

      Deon - 2012-02-08 10:45

This is sad. Not all train drivers are men, we have a few women train drivers here in Cape Town. This upsets them terrible, but life goes on.

  • elsabe.wessels1 - 2012-02-07 12:51

The children had still so much to live for. Why should their potential be taken away??

      Godfrey - 2012-02-07 14:02

Because she was probably brainwashed into believing there is an afterlife for herself and her children. Terribly sad.

  • Donald - 2012-02-07 12:52

This is so sad, for the kids, who and what they could and might have turned out to be on day. I cannot understand how parents can do such terrible things to their own.

      larisha.toffar - 2012-02-07 13:18

I agree Alicia but not about the last sentence because as far as I am aware suicide is a huge sin in any religion.

      Vermie - 2012-02-07 15:39

@Alicia It's also means you would have trust, faith, belief that he will take you through the storm. Sorry for your loss but it is true, in most religions suicide is viewed as a sin. To throw away something as precious as a life that was given to you, to me that seems a slap in his face. You can keep the pretty thought of "the children are at peace now" but what of the fact that she had no right to take their lives from them.

  • mabandla.magoqwana - 2012-02-07 12:55

no matter how big is your problem but to commit a suicide its not a solution problems will always be there we need to seek a help, esp with innocent children who knows nothing about your trouble.

  • Tammy - 2012-02-07 12:58

and once again it is the children that suffer. what a grusome way to die. I don't even want to know what went through their little minds. Poor babies. RIP

  • Shirley - 2012-02-07 12:59

I get that when you are depressed the only solution feels like suicide but to take the lives of children is beyond comprehension. R.I.P. little ones.

  • Shimmer - 2012-02-07 13:03

The kids, the poor kids...what kind of person will take the lives of innocent children as well...THERE IS NO PROBLEM TOO BIG THAT GOD CANNOT SOLVE!!!!

      Godfrey - 2012-02-07 14:04

Ag, she probably did it because she falsely believed there is an afterlife. Your god does not exist and cannot solve anything. And shouting about does not add any validity to your claim.

      Vermie - 2012-02-07 16:14

@Godfrey Just as denial adds no validity to your claim. We are all free to believe what we want to.

      trix.duvenage - 2012-02-08 14:12

Robert, samantha, janine. alicia, Licille... All of you admitted that you are guilty. Just shows you how the system of God works. This woman and her children had to die to get a few other people [like you guys] to your senses to at least admit the absence of charity in their lives. Well said al of you, but please repent and change....

  • Bernice - 2012-02-07 13:07

My heart bleeds for these Kids RIP.This women is really selfish and how must those children not have felt .

  • Xoli - 2012-02-07 13:26

    Shame those poor kids..

  • Garth - 2012-02-07 13:35

Are we sure that it was suicide? Maybe the two kids were trying to murder their mom! They held her in the path of an oncoming train and then before they could jump out of the way, they got hit. Because they thought that it was a big train far away.

      Rudolph - 2012-02-07 13:41

Garth, your ignorant comment makes me suffer great amount of indignation. It's obvious to me that they were merely trying to catch a train.

      vastis1 - 2012-02-07 13:44

      Seriously? Have you gone mad?

      Shanelle - 2012-02-07 13:44

@Garth- silly boy! I know its hard to always be looking out for other people but we all in the same boat (life!) so maybe we should just take time out and listen to other people. Get help if we need it or feel they need it - This was so unnecessary!

      Xoli - 2012-02-07 14:27

      Cmon dude thats not funny..

  • EyesEars - 2012-02-07 13:37

Sad, however in a better place. I don't blame the mother at all, if it were suicide. She has done what she could in order to protect her young, even until death. They will not have to go hungry or feel pain anymore, nor would the children be left to fend for themselves in a children’s-home. It must have taken quite a lot of courage and a lot of inside emotional pain, to have gone through something like that. Some will describe it as cowardly. Feel sorry as well for the train driver. Perhaps their are a bigger purpose to the reason why he had to go through this which the human mind will not be able to understand.

      Godfrey - 2012-02-07 14:06

The problem is that the mother was also brainwashed into believing there is a "better place" after death. Life on Earth would be better if everyone thought people only got one chance at life.

      Vermie - 2012-02-07 16:18

Are you for real? a lot of courage? Courage comes from facing it and finding the power inside yourself to persevere no matter how impossible it may seem. Suicide is giving up. There is no courage in that, there is no courage in putting your children infront of a train ><

  • godesha - 2012-02-07 13:43

How sad for the kids. My heart is ripped out everytime I read a story like this. Rest in peace little ones.

  • Tammy - 2012-02-07 13:49

NOt only did the mother kill her innocent children, she damaged the poor train driver for ever and this will have an affect on his whole family. I hope they all find the strenght to survive the tragic event.

      Karen - 2012-02-07 15:28

Exactly. What about the people on the train? What about the rescue workers who have to pick up the pieces? People who commit suicide are cowards. Selfish people who only think of themselves.

  • Marion - 2012-02-07 14:03

I've been there where I once attempted suicide many years ago. It didn't enter my mind for one second to take my young son with me. It was her life, she could do whatever she wanted with it in my opinion, but to take her children's lives beggars belief. Although a woman I once knew, who had recently been widowed, said that if ever she committed suicide she would take her kids with her because no one else would love and protect them the way she did. I told her she was arrogant to believe that.

  • Natascha - 2012-02-07 14:11

imagine how terrified those children were (if they were awake). Selfish mother

  • Ziona - 2012-02-07 14:28

Why take the kids with you...???? I would never understand, why kill the kids, kill yourself if you want to so badley but leave the kids....

  • Lizelle - 2012-02-07 14:35

Hello Alicia In the bible they talk about the people that will be misledded through the devil. Also they talk about you cant take your own life in or hands, thats God's will for you to die i also have a family member that comitted such thing. The bible say you must pick up your cross everyday and walk the walk with Christ. All of us are not guaranteed when you became a christian to have no problems but we must trust, believe in the one and only God.

      Derrick - 2012-02-07 15:09

@Lizelle, Stop blaming the devil, we are the devil.

      richard.hipkin - 2012-02-07 15:13

      There is no devil..

  • Mona - 2012-02-07 14:44

    So sad!

  • amelia.dippenaar - 2012-02-07 15:12

What the F... do they want on the tracks?? So sal alles gekeer word!!!

      Vermie - 2012-02-07 15:51

      1. On purpose for suicidal reasons? 2. Fences? Have you seen how fast fences vanish? They put 'em up and the stuff gets stolen. Are you going to fence the track all the way from Cape Town to Pretoria? o.o Heinings werk nie.

  • Asanda - 2012-02-07 15:13

Don't want to lie to you people if I can ever decide to commit suicide, i will take my kids with because I can see now while I'm alive that no one will ever take care of them when I'm gone especially if they are still at the age that they need me most e.g toddlers or at th eage that thry cant do anything for themselves.

      Karring - 2012-02-07 15:48

      you're insane !!!!!!!

      pberchu - 2012-02-07 15:50

I agree the world is a cruel place for a mum...I loss count of the number I drove my children to the bay to end the abusive marriage. When I gathered enuf courage to Dvors him..him opposed everystep of the way. I am still waiting to be DVORST 5 years later!

      Vermie - 2012-02-07 16:02

I would give my life if needed to spare my child. How could any parent even for a second think it would be a better route to just end their children's lives as well. One of the many great things about kids is they learn to adapt and survive what life throws at them.

      Kristie-leigh - 2012-05-12 14:29

It's simple ... Don't have kids then and don't contemplate suicide!

  • Chris - 2012-02-07 15:29

Please if you have problems talk,go for councelling seek help but do not take the future from your children, give them a chance if you think that you have failed.Chris Mentor

  • craig.vanstraten - 2012-02-07 16:08

F%cken women was a complete idiot!

  • Gwen - 2012-02-07 16:30

May the children rest in peace!!!

  • Ghayat - 2012-02-07 18:16

How sad, I agree, the children had their whole lives ahead of them, and imagine their fear at this time....

  • Wendy - 2012-02-08 08:02

we as Christians have no right to judge this women!!! yes those kids could of have had a future and now it has been taken away. Leave all this and what has happened in Gods hands he knows what to what was going on in that womens head and the fear that was going through those kids heads! they are in a better place where they are safe and loved! God bless you all and the thoughts thats going through your heads!

  • Dianne - 2012-02-08 09:42

Kill yourself if you want but for goodness sake don't take the lives of your innocent children with you. I hope this rotten woman burns in hell for eternity!

  • Antoinette - 2012-02-08 09:51

how can any of you comment can you for one second imagine what a mother have to go through to make that decision to take her life and that of her two children - its obvious she could not provide for them - feed them give them nice pretty clothes, toys to play with, seeing no future because she probably figured she could not even school them properly, chances are no husband or father to help provide either - stop been so judgemental and go sit down and think for one second what her life must have been like before judging her for a coward!!!!!!

  • Shireen - 2012-02-08 10:10

The Baby was 4 weeks and the toddler 3 years old, as a mother my heart is broken, i ask myself what went through her mind...

      Belinda - 2012-02-08 10:40

Post natal depression? Can get really bad, so perhaps she needed help.

  • lvpeterson - 2012-02-08 16:51
