Cape Town - A 29-year-old woman will appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after allegedly being found in possession of property stolen from a home during a violent robbery which led to the death of an elderly couple.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Bernadine Steyn confirmed a Port Alfred woman was arrested over the weekend in possession of a TV set, clothes and a bakkie suspected to have been stolen from the Lindsay Street home where the body of an elderly woman was found in the lounge on August 2.

Her husband was found alive in the garage, but died on Saturday morning in a George hospital, Steyn said.

The bodies were discovered when a friend of the couple found their dog wandering the streets and upon returning to the house phoned the police.

“When police members arrived on the scene at about 10:30, the body of the woman was found on the floor in the sitting room. She had an open wound in her neck and also injuries to her head,” Steyn confirmed.

“Her 64-year-old husband was found in the garage with open wounds to his body.”

She said “excellent investigative work” by the George Cluster detectives and the Port Alfred police led officers to the suspect.

No arrests for the murders have yet been made.
