2012-12-16 19:19

Johannesburg - A young woman bitten by a snake, believed to be a puff adder, while walking along a nature trail at Shongweni, outside Durban, on Sunday was in a stable condition, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said paramedics treated her before she was taken to Hillcrest private hospital where she was reported to be "absolutely fine".

Banks said she had been walking with friends in the Giba Gorge area when the serpent struck her through her shoe.

the world would be a better place without these creatures. i wish all snakes were exterminated and i don't care what the snake lovers think about that!

      John - 2012-12-16 19:56

I love snakes! GOD created them for us to enjoy. Read about snakes, get over your fear, most are harmless! Snakes are more scared of giant humans than we are of them.

      Dawn Campbell Gibson - 2012-12-16 20:07

      god also created the criminals!

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:14

what do you enjoy about them? they serve no purpose but to eat mice, scare and harm humans. better used as fashion items like shoes, belts and wallets.

      dgraider - 2012-12-16 20:16

You are an absolute fool. Not only would lack of snakes leave a huge gap in the foodchain (which would impact everything and everyone), they are fascinating and beautiful creatures. Your ignorance is shocking.

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:19

there are other predators that are less scary, harmful and hideous to fill that gap in the food chain.

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:20

yes beautiful and facinating as wallets and shoes

      blip.noodlum - 2012-12-16 20:20

There are no snakes at all -- venomous or non-venomous -- in Ireland. And there are no gaps in the food-chain as a result.

boom "slang" afraidi Snakes are part of nature. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. When in the veld, keep a good lookout - it's their territory. Where we live on the coast our surroundings mainly consist of coastal dunes and fynbos, I catch many puff adders every year and relocate them to an indigenous forests close by. The boom slange is no problem – they come and go. We’ve been living with a large male and his female in our garden for more than 5 years. Recently saw the newly born dashing for the close by bushes. Marvelous animals. Have respect – they prefer not to bite anything other than their meal. I would rather have snakes than rats.

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:26

rocky i am a joburger and live in sandton far away from any of these things. yes i would love to live in camps bay, zimabli etc. beautiful coastal area. however i will have sleepless nights if these creatures are in my garden. not only would i buy an ak-47 to shoot their entire nest, i will hire a security guard just to patrol for snake activity lol i am terrified of these things. i went to a snake museum in malaysia - the things were supposed to be behind glass. yet they were all loose and around people's necks. i lasted 5 seconds in there and ran. i will never go back.

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:29

@rocky bell. if they are in MY habitat than i am considered their meal. you need to call the snake protection hotline. they will remove those things from your bushes. seriously when they run out of stuff to eat they will come after you! LOL

      rocky.bell.98 - 2012-12-16 20:45

boom, I can understand people's fears. It is mostly exaggerated. Read more about snakes. Today 40 people will die on our roads. Snake bite fatalities are basically zero. Rather be afraid of your "steel monster" than an innocent creature who is rather a friend than a foe. You will rather die from rat diseases than snake venom. PLEEZ, don't kill snakes.

      nicholas.fraser.509 - 2012-12-16 20:47

You are such a ass. The World will be a better place with out you and all others like you.

      shannon.mcmurtrie.3 - 2012-12-16 20:48

Boom.Afridi...You are hilarious!! Thanks for the chuckle!!

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:49

@nick you are a snake and i don't like you

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:51

nick should watch snakes on plane LOL he will have a heart attack when he watches sam jackson blow those things up.

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:53

another famous person is also afraid of snakes - indiana jones.

      james.looch - 2012-12-16 21:11

You are afraid of snakes - well, they are afraid of you, too. The bites are almost always "self defense" when the snake feels threatened. This would have been news if it read: "Woman bites snake".

  • john.ferreira.1213 - 2012-12-16 19:28

It is not nice to bitten by a snake but she can be relieved that it wasn't a black or green mamba. In my area below my property there is a kloof which is notorious for Puffies and the odd Boomslang.

  • John - 2012-12-16 19:49

Wear decent boots and watch where you put your feet. Snakes object to being stood on, they feel they are under attack and strike out in defence. They generally attempt to ESCAPE the giant who is attacking them.

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:16

john now why can't the snake watch where it slithers LOL why must we compensate where we want to step just so that they are not inconvenienced. they must be deported to an island away from us. and that island should be set on fire :P

      asivhanga - 2012-12-16 20:39

@John are we not suppose to kill them, since we're enemies with snakes.....Genesis..

  • John - 2012-12-16 19:59

I am more terrified of cops and taxis than I am of snakes!

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 20:17

i am terrified of cops, taxis and snakes.

I am not a snake lover but as God made them I accept them . I have had to pull one out of a water pit at work , looked like a puff adder , long handle and space and into the bush she went .I hope the girl recovers .

      boom.afridi.56 - 2012-12-16 21:15

God made julius malema as well and i accept him.

  • bob.small.7547 - 2012-12-16 21:48
