Johannesburg - A 36-year-old woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport for possession of 2.9kg of cocaine, police said on Tuesday.

The Hungarian woman was arrested on Monday night after drugs concealed in roll-on bottles were found in her possession, said national spokesperson Tumi Shai.

"She was from Sao Paulo and had travelled via Dubai," said Shai.

The woman was the second foreign national to be arrested at the Johannesburg airport in three days, following the arrest of a man from Cape Verde on Friday evening.

The 36-year-old, who was also travelling from Sao Paulo, was found with 2.1kg of cocaine wrapped around his body.

The two were expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court to face charges related to drug dealing and trafficking.

Death penalty for bringing drugs in this country is the solution.

Really now. Even the people who don't carry drugs, know that you would be a complete moron to bring drugs in on the SP flight. The sniffer dogs are all over EVERY piece of luggage on those flights. She can be glad she was caught in South Africa and not a country where they treat drug crime seriously.

I know this is nit-picking but really, is it good English to use the word "busted" in a headline? anyway, glad they got caught. Well done to those in charge.

If these people are let out on bail then the Justice system sucks plus these idiots trying to smuggle drugs into ANY country are stupid and morons - they do not seem to realize that there are sniffer dogs at airports - people just does not want to learn and are only interested in make money!! - Look at a programme "Locked Up Abroad"= National Geographic

      chez.kri - 2012-12-04 15:44

@Anaska. If that program is not enough to put someone off smuggling drugs then they bl**dy well deserve to get caught! I watch that show with morbid fascination. If I tried that, I may as well carry a "guilty" sign in neon lights-thats how scared I'd be.

Our justice system must do the same as what other countries do - death penalty. What happens when the syndicates work together and stuff drugs into your bag? If you get caught, how do you defend yourself?

      gerhard.muller.988 - 2012-12-04 16:33

They won't even give the death penalty to those who commit mutliple murders. They get life. And life means 15 years or until some president has a birthday and pardons all of them. And if they had to introduce the death penalty for drug smuggling or dealing, some of our ministers would lose some wives or cousins, so that is not going to happen either.

Drug users should remember, Far East, possible death sentence, in South Africa, guaranteed death sentence, welcome to the Aids Club

Blame apartheid girl, it's what everyone else does

This problem of drug smuggling is increasing not decreasing. 2,9kg is nothing in comparrison with the 9 tons that was found in Antwerpen harbour about 2 months ago. The people in South America who is making the drugs just make more of it and in hope that somewhere it will slip through customs. There are many people who will do anything for money and some are forced to do it and they are made to believe that nothing will happen to them. What a sad case!

My question is.... If the women was busted with 2.9 kilos of coke, what happened to the other 100 grams? surely she was given 3 kilos of coke?
