Johannesburg - A woman was killed when her motorbike collided with a car in Pretoria in the early hours of Saturday morning, paramedics said.

"An off-duty paramedic was in the car that was struck in the junction. He [ran] from the vehicle and rushed to her aid," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.

"The force of impact had thrown her from the bike and she was found lying near the mangled wreckage."

The cause of the accident is unknown.

The woman died at the scene.

My sincere condolences to family and friends. Motor cycles now days are far too fast and the rider's chances of minor injuries are remote.Their visibility to motorists especially at night are limited.

A tragic event, condolence to the family. I do however see the vast majority of bikers speeding, cutting through traffic etc. Is it not time that biker groups such as the one who brought out the yellow ,think bike sticker, do something about the way most bikers eem to diregard the law? Please dont misunderstand me I for no moment think that this unfortunate person was driving badly or recklisly and even if she was she definately did not deserve to die i just think that this may be an opportunity for biking groups to promote safe driving. I also known that south africa is a country of bad drivers whether they are bike or car drivers. again my deepest condolences
