Durban - A woman was killed and two others were injured when their car veered from the road and landed in a river in New Germany, KwaZulu-Natal, early Sunday morning, paramedics said.

"One patient was found half in the water but she had already succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased on scene," ER 24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said.

Two other women managed to get out of the car before paramedics arrived, and were treated for suspected neck and back injuries, cuts and hypothermia.

They were stabilised on scene and taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
