Johannesburg- The body of a woman was found lying next to the Mabopane highway near Zandfontein cemetery in Hercules on Thursday, Gauteng police said.

The woman, aged between 20 and 30, had a bullet wound in the head and another in the left arm, police spokesperson Amos Msimango said.

Two passers-by found the body and called the police. Two spent cartridges and live ammunition were found at the scene.

She was wearing a pair of denim shorts, a blue t-shirt, grey jacket, black shoes and a gold-plated bracelet.

RIP when is this type of senseless crime going to come to and end..?

I know we are very sensitive about reporting race or colour, but in cases such as this it would help a great deal to mention whether it's an African, Coloured, Indian, White, Chinese person etc as this helps those with missing friends or relatives. There must be hundreds of wasted calls to the police from people who don't know whether it's their loved ones or not.

Fully agree! All we know is that it is a woman, wearing jean shorts and over 20yrs old. This information narrows the victim's identity to possibly thousands of citizens.

Race and colour are not mentioned... why is the gender mentioned?

      khumo.lebone - 2012-12-14 08:28

This is because of all the ridicule that gets thrown onto particular races if the race of the victim is mentioned. And News24 readers are the worst at it. We have people who would happily ridicule a crime commited by black people and they suddenly become "understanding" if that similar crime was committed by a white person.

      mlungisi.botha - 2012-12-14 12:26

@khumo.lebone: You're absolutely right and we do have such people and they're a mixture of people expressing their views or they're people who just want to stir up the mud a bit for no constructive reason. But, there are also people out there who can provide useful info. which would help investigations. In any case khumo no police force (or service!) in the world can ever hope to solve a crime without the help of the community and to get that help they need to give at least some basic information; they've already said she was shot twice, she had denim shorts - then why not say what race she was. In fact, if I was the police I'd say a young woman (and mention her colour, race)was found shot dead next to a motorway and mention what she had on. That's all worried relatives or friends or informants need. The two bullet wounds she received in the head and arm and the fact that unspent rounds and shell casings were found is info. that they should keep under lock and key.

It is sad to hear of another senseless killing. But, this is a poor report. Obviously the woman remains unidentified citing the fact they do not know her age and no mention of ethnic decent. They could atleast have used this opportunity to provide more details to get the public to identify the victim which could lead to the killer. Most crimes are solved with evidence and information obtained in the first 24-48 hrs. After that, evidence and witness testimony is often tainted or questionable.

It would really helped if they mention the Race so that people might have a bit of info about thre said person

Why don't you phone her and check if she is alright?

@Joe. Classic comment! Hahaha! @elkita. Get some common sense!

Surprised this makes the news. I spoke with 2 cops from Westonaria who told me they find bodies with obvious inflicted injuries (not accidental) several times a week on and near the rural roads in that area. These cannot be idenitifed and are simply taken to the morgue, no investigation is done.

Shame. She just could not make it to the cemetary. Shame
