Cape Town - A man has been arrested after the body of a 39-year-old woman was found at a Camps Bay hotel on Wednesday afternoon.

Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy, but it is understood the murdered woman was an American citizen on holiday in Cape Town.

The 41-year-old suspect is believed to be known to the woman and is also not a South African national.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana told News24 the incident was reported to police at around 15:00 and officers responded to the scene in Chilworth Road.

“The circumstances surrounding this matter are being investigated. A suspect was arrested and was expected to appear in Cape Town Magistrate's court once charged,” she said.

Camps Bay police station commander Captain Delicia Isaacs was unable to immediately confirm how the woman had been killed, saying this was still being investigated.
