Woman gang-raped after sangoma ceremony

2012-07-02 14:30

Bloemfontein - Three men have raped a Sasolburg woman after chasing her boyfriend away with knobkerries, Free State police said on Monday.

Constable Peter Kareli said the 43-year-old woman and her boyfriend were on their way home from a sangoma ceremony on Saturday around 13:30.

They ran into three men carrying sticks and knobkerries. Two of the men chased the boyfriend, while the third held the woman down.

When the two men returned, they covered the woman’s face with a blanket and all three took turns raping her. The men fled afterwards.

Guess the Sangoma didn't see the future of this woman to well. Ah well. just come to show that Sangoma's doesn't have so much power after all.

      Dee - 2012-07-02 15:10

Do you visit your doctor, naturopath or priest for "seeing the future"? I'm not sure what relevance the preceding activities of these really unfortunate victims has - other than give the Wilhelm Grobbelaar's of our society a platform to show their overwhelming ignorance and total lack of humanity????

  • eugene.meyer1980 - 2012-07-02 15:18

Sorry but am I missing somethinghere??? What does visiting the sangoma have to do with the rape of this women? Does every other rape article start with, women raped after...(visiting her friend, eating at Spur, shopping at the Spar...) Im just wondering why the Sangomoa gets mentioned.

  • moi.carla.1980 - 2012-07-02 15:20

What the hell is going on??? I really think that the only way we are going to deter rapists in this country is by castration. The threat of jail time does not seem to bother them. Other than the death sentence, there's no other option.

      Marco - 2012-07-02 18:32

there's times when you can run away. this situation was not one of them. here you fight to the death.

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-07-02 18:45

That's the difference between me & you Freddy!!

      maseratifittipaldi - 2012-07-02 19:59

One will only know how you will react when you are actually in the situation. It is easy to pronouncements from afar.

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-07-02 20:06

No it's not Maserati it's quite simple to know who you are! and don't assume one hasn't been there!

    Mob justice anyone?

      michael.a.devilliers - 2012-07-02 18:12

Yes, but mob justice is mostly necklacing and stoning petty criminals and shoplifters - the people are scared of the real criminals.

We have armed forces scanning the horizons in search of the enemy. We have many enemies within our borders, laughing at our armed forces.

  • Lennon Chenga - 2012-07-02 21:51

One man, held down the woman whilst the other two chased the man!! Where was he running to? When did he come back and did he come back? How long was he gone for allowing three thugs to rape one woman, one after another!!! I think if he had stayed and run around close enough to the woman whilst making lots of noise, he would have had a better result. Running away was not the answer!!

  • Rory Neil Price - 2012-07-03 07:58

Jay Zee no worries, you soon will have your jet with shower, and Air Hostess's that if they wise enough will wear trousers, do something about this scourge that is going to kill SA, the minute foreign countries start warn their citizens about the high incidence of crime, specially rape, you loose tourism, and you will no longer be able to fly you "errie"
