Cape Town - The 23-year-old woman who was alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping of 2-year-old Asanda Twala was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Gauteng police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said the woman was traced after a member of the public alerted the toddler’s aunt to the suspect’s whereabouts.

When police saw the suspect in the Johannesburg CBD she tried to flee in a minibus taxi, but was promptly arrested.

Asanda was kidnapped more than two weeks ago. Her kidnappers sent her family SMSes demanding a R15 000 ransom.

Asanda was returned to her family on Tuesday afternoon. She was unharmed.

The suspect will appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates court on Thursday on charges of kidnapping.

Excellent news. I hope justice prevails and she receives the maximum sentence for her dreadful deed and all the worry and heartache she caused the family.

To kidnap for R15000, she must be very sick indeed! Actually I felt pity for her when I realised that she wants R15G - you don't do such things for such a pittance!

      Hemlock - 2012-07-11 12:47

For such a pittance????? You DON'T DO such things at all - not for ANY amount of money. I have no pity for this evil woman.

So glad to read for a change that the child was found alive! Very happy for the parents that their baby is back safe. Sad though that they had to learn the hard way you can't trust anyone, even a family friend.

You could be prosecuted for that comment. This is one comment that you might want to have deleted. (Use it. Don't use it).

hence the word considering, and good luck tracing an avatar posting on a website through a proxy. i did not say anything bad, and its not only me, if they are silencing people comments it seems only fair to do the same to them. the least the moderators could do is edit the comment with an explination if people found it offensive, deleting a comment outright raises questions, LEARN SOME BASIC MODERATOR ETIGUETTE - if you consider yourself a big dog
