Johannesburg - A woman has been arrested for allegedly faking her own kidnapping, Limpopo police said on Monday.

The woman, 29, disappeared from the Nebo Magistrate's Court on Friday afternoon after obtaining a protection order against her allegedly abusive husband, said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

The woman's family reported to police that she had been kidnapped by two men. Specialised police units searched for the woman and her husband was arrested for suspected involvement.

Police tracked the woman down in Motetema on Sunday evening, where "intense investigations revealed that the woman had fabricated the story", Mulaudzi said.

The woman would appear in the Nebo Magistrate's Court on Wednesday in connection with charges of perjury and defeating the ends of justice, he said.

The woman's husband was released after she was found.

Imagine the anxiety of Her parents and children. Can picture what hell the husband went through lying in a filthy cell. Some woman deserve a good hiding

What a waste of manpower, yet one can only wonder at her desperation to attempt this. I hesitate to pass judgement until her full reason is disclosed seeing that she sought a protection order against her husband for spousal abuse. Maybe she lost faith in the justice system and went into hiding as a means of protecting herself??
