Johannesburg - A woman will appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate's Court after she allegedly strangled her 2-year-old niece to death, Free State police said on Friday.

Constable Consolation Mokoale said the 19-year-old woman would face a murder charge in court on Monday.

She was arrested on Wednesday after the girl's naked body was found in a nearby veld.

The woman was held responsible for the murder because she was looking after the girl that day, Mokoale said.

Local residents were about to attack the woman at her home, but were stopped by the police.

It seems as if there are just more and more of these cases. No value for human life.

Yeah I've also noticed Squeegee, it's like an epidemic of some sort. Does my head in. Why not just give the kid up for adoption instead of killing them? Madness.

Tragic. RIP little one. Just proves once again that you cannot even trust your own relatives to look after your children. We live in a dog-eat-dog world.

Crime stats for the 2010/11 year: 908 children were murdered. Shocking. Also, over 28000 kids were the victims of sexual abuse during the same period. It's incredibly hard to understand what would go through the minds of the people committing these crimes.

How does one look a baby in the face while strangling her? I hope they have more evidence linking his girl to the crime than the mere fact that she was babysitting. She might have been negligent, allowing someone else the opportunity to commit the crime. The fact that the baby was found naked raises many more questions. Seems very circumstantial, unless she actually confessed.
