Cape Town - A 20-year-old North West woman was raped by a knife-wielding attacker while she had her four-month-old baby on her back, police have confirmed.

The woman was apparently walking to her boyfriend’s workplace when she was approached by the rapist in Marikana on Thursday morning at about 07:00, police spokesperson, Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko, said.

“The suspect allegedly forced her to the nearby bushes where he raped her before fleeing the scene on foot,” she confirmed.

Moleko said further details were not available as the woman was severely traumatised.

“More information will be gathered from the victim after she has recovered from her trauma. The investigation into the matter continues.”

Police urged anyone with information to contact Marikana Police on 014 572 3100 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
