Woman slaughtered by couple she helped

2012-11-09 09:46

Cape Town - Four people have been arrested after a Cape Town woman was sexually assaulted and murdered, allegedly by a couple she had rescued from the streets.

Hester Koch, 62, was strangled on her Phillippi farm, apparently by a stranded couple she had given accommodation to in a shack on her property, reported the Cape Argus.

Jade White, 24, Koch’s granddaughter, said her grandmother had been “viciously murdered by the people she did everything for”.

White said Koch had felt sorry for the couple and their two children after finding them begging at traffic lights. The woman was pregnant and they said they had lost everything in a fire.

Koch took them home to the farm where she lived with her partner, Arnold Schultz.

White had helped the woman give birth a few weeks ago. “I should have left her there to suffer. I am angry and bitter and wish my gran never met them.”

Koch’s granddaughter described how a few weeks after moving to the farm, the couple started smoking tik and became “cheeky”, with the grandmother eventually asking them to leave.

Koch’s partner last heard from her when she left the house to talk to the woman.

He was later woken up by the couple who tied him up, told him that Koch was lying dead in the shed and stole their possessions, including a bakkie.

A police spokesperson confirmed that four people had been arrested.

What can one say, except condolences to the family. This savagry has become part of what we have to live with.

What is it about SA that we breed such seriously nasty people? Deepest sympathies to the family.

Goes to show that you cant do nice things for people anymore, people have no repect for another life or there private property. its a disgrace.

There are no words, (strong enough), in my vocabulary to describe my feelings about this. In fact the words I'd like to use do not even exist.....

  • peter.ndamase - 2012-11-09 09:56

This is still allegations. If it's true that it is the couple, they should rot in jail. This is senseless!!! Life has become value-less in our country

  • arm.witmens - 2012-11-09 09:58

And this is why i will not help anyone but my own. These sick dogs arent worth the space they occupy in jail.

      don't insult dogs

  • collet.letsoalo - 2012-11-09 09:58

You cannot afford to help a stranger in SA these days. Half the lot are criminals.

  • hudayfah.newman - 2012-11-09 10:01

Help a tikkop?!! You've got to be kidding me. They are an aggressive bunch. Very sly too. You should never trust them. The only way they can come right is when they make the effort themselves, otherwise you are flogging a dead horse.Condolences to the family.

  • litha.luzipo - 2012-11-09 10:23

Sies, let these idiots rot in jail.

  • customdesign - 2012-11-09 10:25

I've helped people like that before, they are in the positions they are in for a reason and I'd be damned if I help their type again- they are ungrateful manipulators who will turn on you in a heartbeat. There are people though that deserve help, children and those trying to make a living. I have no time for adults who beg.

Kill the hand that feeds you? Should be bite. Why help people if this is what you get? Who do you trust?

    No good deed goes unpunished.

  • Luba Mayekiso - 2012-11-09 10:38

Amanda, what happened is tragic and wrong. your comment is pure racism at its worst and only inflames the situation. grow up

  • riotousr - 2012-11-09 10:47

Leave those people on the street. They are there for a reason. They do not need your sympathy. The child(ren) that you see with them is a bait. They are collecting money for tik and cheap wine. On a good day they will even buy cheap brandy, that their primary aim. Now see what happenens to innocent dogooders.

It's just not worth helping strangers anymore. People are just waiting to seize upon the weakness of altruism.

  • njdejager - 2012-11-09 10:54

We are fast moving to a HELP NO ONE society. For our own safety we cannot help ppl anymore. Sad but reality. The homneless and poor will suffer even more because the hands that give are now going to stop giving. They can go and ask government for help, there they will also find NO help unfortunately.

  • stertjie.stert - 2012-11-09 10:55

This is shocking and just confirms that the "needy" are mostly in that situation through their own doing. You simply cannot help strangers any more!

  • arcticencounter - 2012-11-09 10:59

No good deed goes unpunished as the saying goes. I have given up trying to assist people since very few of them are "deserving".

  • zelda.dickson - 2012-11-09 11:04

Moral of the story. You can't trust people anymore to help them. A good enough reason for me to help animals. (The 4 legged ones). They appreciate it.

  • sphala - 2012-11-09 11:10

    So ungratefully

  • danielle.vlok - 2012-11-09 11:11

This is so sad. Another reason to help children, and disabled people through organisations that are there for that sole purpose. Adult able bodied people begging- are most likely there for a reason.
