Woman takes baby from drunk mom

2012-09-05 09:38

Cape Town - A concerned Cape Town resident took a baby away from its drunk mother and gave the child to social workers.

The child’s mother discovered the baby was gone on Sunday and reported her missing, said the Cape Times.

The baby was born prematurely four months ago and was on special medication.

A police spokesperson said it was established on Monday that an unidentified Delft woman had been worried about the child’s safety and had taken her to social workers.

“Some of the residents in the area said the mother was too intoxicated to give an account of what happened to her baby,” said police spokesperson November Filander.

The baby would remain with social workers until an investigation into the mother’s circumstances was done.

A social development department spokesperson said they would look into the mother’s situation as well and whether she too needed help.

They would also investigate where the child’s father is and what role he plays in its life.

Some people become parent by default (Mistake) while they have no responsible bone in their body to take care of children.

      janice.mcmaster.92 - 2012-09-05 09:57

Exactly! No wonder the child was born prem! Fetal alcohol syndrome!!! Some people are not worthy of being called 'MOM"!

      Havokreeka - 2012-09-05 10:16

You often the least responsible people have the most children.

      nicolaas.geldenhuys - 2012-09-05 10:31

I'm sorry but becoming pregnant is no mistake!

      mahlangu.bobo - 2012-09-05 10:46

nicolaas.geldenhuys, it is a mistake for them to have the ability to have children.

I favour biological parents to raise their children and social workers should only have the legal right to remove a child in severe cases of neglect.

      patson.nedzamba - 2012-09-05 11:28

Probably she was intoxicated when she fell pregnant. Irresponsibility of high note.

well done to the lady that took the child out of harms way. Instead of looking on she did the right thing. For the sake of the mother I hope she gets help in order for her to be part of her childs life.

  • shelley.vorster.9 - 2012-09-05 09:51

I would have done the same. The mother does not deserve to have her baby given back I know there are plnety who will give everything to have a little soul of their own, but are unable to. To the mother: If you cant look after your baby - rather have him/her adopted, and you can do this privately

      bernew - 2012-09-05 10:44

YOU NEED A GOLD MEDAL! I'm one of the Mother's that can't have children of my own, but would love to adopt this child!

      shelley.vorster.9 - 2012-09-05 11:09

AGreed bernew. I have a friend who has tried for over 20 years to have a child, she has now adopted a down syndrome baby of 4 months - and she is THE BEST mom you can have. She loves this baby unconditionaly - since the day she got him, for want of a better term, she has cha nged and is a ball of radiance. So there are better moms out there who will take care of this baby - Ill or not.

i'm sorry, but this woman in my eyes, is a hero!! She most probably saved the baby's life!! Well done lady!!

I think it is time that couples and individuals must apply for a liscence before they may bring a child into this world.

Some people don't deserve to be parents

      janice.mcmaster.92 - 2012-09-05 10:36

Still think you should obtain a permit before being allowed to have kids! :(

Being a parent is not a right, it's a privilege. If you can't take proper care of a child (Especially one with these medical conditions) then you shouldn't have them in the first place. The Child Support Grant needs to be removed. It's harsh, but people should be paid to be sterilized rather than be paid a ridiculously small amount that barely helps support children that they won't stop having.

  • madika.mashiloane - 2012-09-05 11:05

This is why I support abortion.

      shelley.vorster.9 - 2012-09-05 11:28

NO!!!!!!!!!! Abortion is murder. There are thousands of moms out there who will pay for private adoptions. If you dont want to fall pregnant - its rather simple: KEEP YOUR LEGS CLOSED

      yolande.rwaai - 2012-09-05 13:13

      I support prevention!

    another absent father situation.

      don.quioxte.3 - 2012-09-05 15:45

Another absent brain. The father is probably spreading TB, AIDS, and hepatitis somewhere else.

  • Khomotso - 2012-09-05 11:18

I'm glad the woman rescued the child.

  • Maria - 2012-09-05 12:11

Drunk mom should be thankful that lady took the child away otherwise maybe she should have slept on top of her/him and been dead by now - Good job/thinking lady.

  • zandie0 - 2012-09-05 12:13

"The baby was born prematurely four months ago and was on special medication"...she discovered her 4 month old baby was missing the next mng" really??? seriasly??? that means the diaper was never changed the whole night, the baby was not fed the whole night and @ 4mnths with special medication, this is cruelity and negligence of the highest level. thank God we still have concerned residents who CARE.

  • danie.smit.587 - 2012-09-05 13:38

Face the facts babies /In a way this teenage mother pregnant with her tenth child is the family provider, her children s ALL PAY allowance feed and supply alcohol to all the adults. Sorry I forgot to mention it , its probably the "boers" fault for making them alcoholics.

  • xoli.xuma - 2012-09-05 14:41

Big ups to the woman who saved this little life, I think we should be reporting such incidents, some women use grants money to buy alcohol.

  • don.quioxte.3 - 2012-09-05 15:42

It will carry on breeding; and this thing is allowed to vote too. Anyone under a certain IQ should be mandatorily sterilised at puberty.

  • don.quioxte.3 - 2012-09-05 15:49

@ Elspeth. So morons in the clinical sense should be allowed to breed indiscriminately? Liberal fools like you are half the reason the world is so stuffed up.
