Search continues for missing planes

2011-08-15 13:20

Johannesburg - Search and Rescue SA on Monday denied reports thatthe wreckage of two light aircraft that went missing in George's Valley, Limpopo, has been found, contrary to earlier reports.

SABC radio news reported earlier on Monday that the wreckage had been found.

It was presumed that there was a mid air collision, SA Flyer magazine editor Guy Leitch told the broadcaster

An earlier version of this story erroneously reported that the wreckage had been found..

According to 702, aviation officials deny that the planes have been located!!!?? W T F ???

      Flee - 2011-08-15 14:35

Eric... thats what this article says.. NOT FOUND... False information given out earlier?? English??

nvledwaba, you chop! Show some sympathy idiot.

@ jacgilbert. you forgot to mention idiotic forum users as well.

  • Reader - 2011-08-15 13:26

wreckage found - nothing about "no survivors". lets hope...

      Pigscanfly - 2011-08-15 13:54

Ever heard of anybody surviving a mid air collision before?

      AloninSA - 2011-08-15 13:58

sorry about my comment earlier, it may have been slightly insensitive... I removed it, but your comment was truly disgusting...

      Pigscanfly - 2011-08-15 14:18

@Alonin SA...I use common sense and I do not let false hope obscure my judgment. Of course I feel deep sympathies for the families. What do you think will happen if an aircraft hit the ground under full power, half power, quarter power? let alone flew into each other. Do you honestly think there will be survivors?

      Flee - 2011-08-15 14:36

      People read properly please..

      jacques.boonzaaier - 2011-08-15 15:57

@Pigscanfly Actually yes there is several incidents where people survived an mid air collision please see here...

      AloninSA - 2011-08-15 15:58

@pigscanfly... that was my sentiments exactly, I commented stating that unfortunately I am fairly certain no one survived... reader then responded like so: "I hope your next"... I understand emotions are high, but that was completely uncalled for

  • Sydney - 2011-08-15 13:28

    Very sad!

  • trevor06 - 2011-08-15 13:28

This makes one realize the importance of life, and that in a second, everything we take for granted, can be taken away... God bless, and peace be with the families

  • Terry Everett - 2011-08-15 13:29

NO wreckage found - do some fact checking please

      HJS - 2011-08-15 13:33

      Say what?

      GinSA1 - 2011-08-15 13:33

Huh? This is what they said - 'The wreckage of two light aircraft that went missing in George's Valley, Limpopo has been found, .....'

      Sydney - 2011-08-15 13:36

SABC got it wrong as usual.. The search continues.

      Truth24 - 2011-08-15 13:52

This is an epic fail. How do you get THIS wrong N24?

      blanco_pta - 2011-08-15 13:53

@tanicka, who becomes the idiot at last? hahahahaaa

      Terry Everett - 2011-08-15 13:55

Until you have a comment from Johny Smit, official spokesperson for Search and Rescue, anything cut and pasted from the the internet has about as much value as Tanica's enlightened and authoritative comment above. Unfortunately that does not stop lazy reporters from publishing it, where friends and family of those missing can see it. I say again - do some fact checking.

      werner.bezuidenhout - 2011-08-15 14:00

wtf... you surely are fast asleep...

      werner.bezuidenhout - 2011-08-15 14:01

  • Charlie - 2011-08-15 13:35

Is this true or not??? Those of us who have family members on the planes need to know the truth and not just rumors!

  • A3AN - 2011-08-15 13:35

This is a false report. The planes have not been found as per the latest information from the rescue teams!

  • McDaNife - 2011-08-15 13:35

What were they trying to do, race each other coz hard to believe they collided in midair.RIP though

      Verbatim - 2011-08-15 13:57

Your obvious lack of understanding of basic principals of flight and that of formation flying is very apparent.

  • Bigglesworth - 2011-08-15 13:36

The report of wreckage being found is unsubstantiated, and is based on a post on an aviation forum. The authenticity of the information provided is questionable at best. Until such time as the ARCC issues a statement confirming that wreckage has been found, all reports claiming such should be treated as suspect.

      Pigscanfly - 2011-08-15 14:06

You should go on "Ripely's believe or not" and discuss their disappearance by aliens. Use your common sense, we're approaching 24 hours that they have been missing, what do you think happened to the two planes? they probably didn't have enough fuel to fly to a neighbouring state, so that rules out their escape. Hope against hope?

  • Roan - 2011-08-15 13:37

Just confirmed that this is a false report. Guy Leitch confirmed on RSG that someone gave him false information.

      Vela Stardust - 2011-08-15 13:41

Just goes to prove you can't believe everything you read in the newspaper.

  • Neil - 2011-08-15 13:39

According to the AVCOM website the wreckage HAS BEEN FOUND! however no mention of survivors so their may yet still be some home.

      Rudi Kay - 2011-08-15 20:50

Don't know where you get your info from. Just finished reading 20 pages on Avcom, and nowhere did I see that thed wreckage has been found. The following was the last message I read re the search:"Just a comment to say that not all searching has stopped for the day. Keaton (Air Bear) and Darrell Lush are still out there searching in one of the official 4x4 vehicles following up on one of the many leads that come through in these circumstances." No aircraft were searching at the time, and the search will recommence early tomorrow, weather permitting. This message was posted at 18h43 this afternoon. So all of those people that are shouting the wreckage has been found, get your facts staright. Many people are awaiting the fate of family and friends in those two aircraft, and by distributing stories that are not true only adds to the hurt. Let's pray that tomorrow will bring some results!

  • TrevorGP - 2011-08-15 13:41

On 702 they said the wreckage had been found but adverse weather conditions have not allowed them to send a rescue crew down yet. No mention of survivors as yet. That's all I heard but who knows the stories keep changing

  • Anni24_7 - 2011-08-15 13:41

Conflicting reports all over the various news stations and Twitter.

  • Ijacobs3 - 2011-08-15 13:42

get ur facts straight, nothing is confirmed yet

  • - 2011-08-15 13:42

News people (media and magazine!) seem in a hurry to grab headline news but S&R have issued no report of any wreckage found. this is not helpful.

  • jeremy - 2011-08-15 13:42

Interesting. When John Robbie asked Guy on 702 this morning whether the two planes could have collided, he was adamant they couldn't have, as they were used to flying in formation. If it's bad weather that caused them to collide - I wonder why they didn't they turn back?

      Chewbacca - 2011-08-15 13:45

      Because they had collided?

      Verbatim - 2011-08-15 13:59

You do not do close formation flying in bad weather and with passengers on board. END OF STORY.

  • ciemone - 2011-08-15 13:48

i have just spoken to my cousin who is the daughter of one of the pilots.. The planes nor any wreckage have been found as of 13h47. Media have been wrongly informed. still holding thumbs

      i meant havent been found!!

  • WhiteMalema - 2011-08-15 13:49

I still cannot stop hoping for some miraculous survival story, but this news is very saddening. My thoughts are with the families of the occupants.

  • elizemare - 2011-08-15 13:53

Oh no this is really bad for Aviation!!! My heart is going out to the families of the deceased.

  • Eland Eland - 2011-08-15 13:54

Any loss of life is regrettable, think of the young kids, who will grow without parents? When that knock comes knocking at YOUR door, you will know.... My heart goes out to the small ones – RIP.

  • eidel - 2011-08-15 13:54

"It was presumed that there was a mid air collision, SA Flyer magazine editor Guy Leitch told the broadcaster". The real cause of the collision nobody will ever know.

  • Justine.Lee.Evans - 2011-08-15 13:56

they were two professionals who were on their way back from an air show with friends and family in the plane's, it is so hard to believe. one of the planes being flown was my uncles... the wreck's have been spotted by a jumbo who happened to fly over them on his route, until the weather clears nothing will be confirmed... and to those idiots who wanna joke about this as a previous comment said... STFU!!!!

  • Justine.Lee.Evans - 2011-08-15 14:00

please guys just keep hope, thats what we need now... some miricle that they are all alive...

  • hanli.booysen - 2011-08-15 14:10

Search and Rescue SA on Monday DENIED reports that the wreckage of two light aircraft that went missing in George's Valley, Limpopo, has been found, CONTRARY to earlier reports....

  • Natalie Good-Babst - 2011-08-15 14:58

I know one of the people that was on the plane. and her husband is looking for the wreckaage in one of the search and rescue helicopters. the wreckage has not been found yet.

  • Natalie Good-Babst - 2011-08-15 14:59

  • Johann Grobler - 2011-08-15 15:01

Best you get your facts straight before publishing information of this nature. Your previous breaking news that the wrekage has been located, was shared all over the internet.

  • msljc - 2011-08-15 17:56

We have a very close family member on board one of those planes and rest assured that no wreckage has yet been found. Today has been one of the longest days of our lives but we cannot give up hope that those whom we hold so dear will not return. All we can do now is hold onto faith...and each other.
