Cape Town - Russian president Vladimir Putin and President Jacob Zuma have concluded successful bilateral discussions in Moscow.

According to a statement released by the Presidency on Sunday, the two leaders discussed the status and implementation of the Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) agreements and preparations for an ITEC conference to be held in Russia later in the year.

The two also discussed preparations for the BRICS summit to be held in Moscow in July.

The two leaders, according to the statement, also agreed on the need to intensify cooperation in various areas and to explore more opportunities in mining, energy and agriculture, amongst others.

Zuma met Putin on the side-lines of festivities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
