Zuma arrives in Russia

2014-08-24 12:00

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma arrived in Russia on Sunday and will undertake a working visit, the department of International Relations and Co-operation said.

Spokesperson Clayson Monyela said Zuma would visit Russia for a week from 24 to 29 August.

He said Zuma was scheduled to meet President Vladimir Putin.

"The visit will further strengthen the excellent bilateral relations with a view to consolidating and opening new avenues towards job creation, skills development, exchange and transfer of technology and trade and investment," said Monyela.

During the bilateral talks the two presidents were expected to assess the state of bilateral co-operation, the status and implementation of Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Co-operation (ITEC) Agreements, key trade and investment issues.

Monyela said they would also discuss the preparations for the 12th ITEC session to be hosted by South Africa this year.

The two presidents would also focus on developments on critical international issues of mutual concern, including, but not limited to the situation in Syria, and the Israel-Palestine matter, as well as developments in Ukraine, which is Russia's neighbour.

He said ahead of the bilateral meeting, Zuma would from 25-27 August hold low key meetings and use the period to rest.

Hahahaha: ".....and will undertake a working visit, ..." Impossible!!

      Deepandsoulfulhouse DjVido Buka - 2014-08-24 12:10

He is in Russia to conclude the nuclear deal, so he can have Money to pay for Nkandla

      Petrus Kruger - 2014-08-24 12:22

RUSSIA is a total non-go country at the moment with imposed sanctions by the USA and EU over the support for military support of rebel Ukraine fighters and the inhumane barbaric act of shooting down a civilian aircraft M17! But what do we SA presidency do .. we go and visit them for "koekies en tee"!!

      VoxPopuli - 2014-08-24 12:28

Petrus, it's becoming obvious Ukraine shot that plane down that's why Ukraine, the Netherlands, Australia and Belgium on the 8th of August signed a non-disclosure agreement pertaining to data obtained during the investigation into the causes of the crash of Malaysian Airlines MH17. They're counting on your stupidity to keep them blame on rebels and Russia......

      CliveK - 2014-08-24 12:57

Buka: my thoughts exactly. Little doubt that some private nuclear deal is being hatched between Zuma and Putin, which will make the arms deal billions look like some kid's pocket money. Anthony: I have no idea what "patrhitic" means, but please remember that Thuli is the Public Protector, not the Zuma protector or the ANC protector. And she's one of the few civil servants who take their jobs seriously, and do it well.

      Linds Ron-House - 2014-08-24 14:09

@Petrus, my comment has nothing to do with Zuma but with Russia and sanctions. The US and EU supported rebels in Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, (even the rebels who killed SA soldiers in CAR were supported by France) etc. Why is Russia not allowed to support rebels elsewhere. Russia should be supported for standing up against the super powers who want to rule the world. These super powers unilaterally decide who is a rebel and who is a terrorist.

      NoeNoe - 2014-08-24 22:57

Hisonour JZ runs to Russia because the shyte has hit the fan with Ms Thuli going after him about his reluctance to answer questions regarding Nkandla. The excuse for not meeting the 04 September 2014 deadline - "Working visit to Russia".

Also a new one: "...Zuma would from 25-27 August hold low key meetings and use the period to rest." He just returned from a rest after and exhausting election campaign a few weeks ago??? He couldn't even answer the questions in Parliament, or is he running away from juju????

      Anthony Proanc - 2014-08-24 12:42

. WHAT about Helen Blunder ?? She has been in bed, ever since the elections !! Still cannot handle her own stupidity, that she costs her party an extra million votes, through her DUMB behaviour !!! She should pack her bags, and let poppy Thuli take her place, poppy sooooo much desires !! .

Wasting even more of the country's money. What a toss. Looking at how many people are suffering due to unemployment, poverty and injustice in the workplace, it's sad that he's still allowed to even CARRY out any official visits on behalf of the country. He's a disgrace even to those who continue to support him and has no leadership qualities to say the least. I don't know why he doesn't do himself and all of us a favour and step down, remain in Russia or just disappear before he dries up our country of the little dignity we still have left of having to wake up each day knowing that our country is in the hands of this incompetent...er... don't even have a decent thing to say.

Let that trip benefit the country rather than individuals, and lastly to my suggestion our the position of deputy president should be changed to be prime minister and do all heavy work and traveling while president looks only internal issues,it is high time now that this country be ruled and governed by educated people who bring the country first and not themselves first, their friends, families and relatives. We all want to benefit from wealth and resources of this country.
