Johannesburg - The spokesperson for the presidency, Mac Maharaj, said on Sunday that President Jacob Zuma had concluded a working visit to Lilongwe in Malawi where he attended the 33rd ordinary summit of SADC heads of state.

Maharaj said in a statement: "On [Friday], the president participated in the summit of the Southern African Development Community troika on politics, defence and security co-operation where he presented a report on Zimbabwe in his capacity as SADC facilitator on Zimbabwe."

Matters relating to regional economic integration, peace and security were among those discussed at the summit.

"SADC continues to serve as the primary vehicle for South African foreign policy to achieve regional development and integration within Southern Africa," Maharaj said.

He said South Africa's future remained inextricably linked to that of the African continent and neighbouring countries in Southern Africa.

International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies had accompanied Zuma to the summit.
