Zuma hosts Christmas party for seniors

2014-12-27 17:21

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma on Saturday hosted a Christmas party for senior citizens at Nkandla, the presidency says.

The party hosted more than 5 000 senior citizens from Nkandla and the surrounding areas including Ladysmith and Port Shepstone, spokesperson Zanele Mngadi said in a statement.

"President Zuma handed the senior citizens Christmas gifts that included blankets, food packages and a Christmas cake, while a variety of their favourite music artists successively shared the stage," she said.

Zuma said he was delighted to show love and compassion for senior citizens.

"We remind them that they are very important and that from them we learn many things everyday. They are important resources of the history of their families and that of the nation," he said.

The party, which is in its tenth year, was held at Mnyakanya High School.

Zuma was accompanied by Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, her deputy Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for health Sibongiseni Dlomo, Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Cyril Xaba and Ethekwini Mayor James Nxumalo.

Bribing people at Christmas time is a sin. Its nice to give gifts, but as a President of a country, you cannot be seen to be favoring some people. What about all those thousands of old people around the country that did not get any present. The Government should have rather included a Christmas bonus in the December pensions of every old citizen.

Did they swim in the "firepool"? Did they visit the airconditioned chicken house? Zuma told them he did not ask for Nkandla but the ancestors were kind to him and gave him Nkandla

      lacrimosewolf - 2014-12-27 18:56

Well I hope the gifts were better than last year. Last year they got blankets and soaps with JZs face printed on them

Zuma has no thinking capacity, he doesn’t have ideas. Anything he says, you must rest assured he heard somebody saying it and he believed it.We need a president who respects himself and the office he occupies. We can’t allow a president who gets married every weekend, it can’t be.The ANC is in a crisis, the ANC is led by cowards. I am struggling to single out a person who is a revolutionary to the core. Except for Mama Winnie Mandela, the rest are cowards

      Lesia Mohale - 2014-12-27 18:20

Wiekus my vriend, polygamy is allowed in this country. Yes if it is practice by the president it has bearing on state funds, no, our money, but democracy will always have victims of it existence, just like the opposite thereof.

  • Wiekus Kotze - 2014-12-27 18:56

Then let’s ask the question – what did whites do to show blacks that they are partners in this reconciliation? Black people said we are forgiving them, we are one country, let’s live together, and let’s change. Black people are the ones who must apologize to us for killing them. Despite everything being done, despite everything President Mandela has tried to do….but whites keep on showing black people a middle finger and want to blame blacks when they respond. It can’t be. It can’t be. Blacks have done everything. Everything they could. For 20 years… with all those expectations we had under Pres Mandela where we didn’t achieve them, we are still patiently waiting that one day things will be fine. But for sure you know what happened in Africa 20 years after democratic breakthroughs – people gave up and said, no, this is too much now, enough is enough, and they started chasing those who are seen to be perpetuating oppression.

      Nico Louw - 2014-12-27 19:13

" with all those expectations we had under Pres Mandela where we didn’t achieve them." .....and are you aware of the fact that you will not achieve it. 20 years not enough ? You are one hell of a confused comrade !

Wiekus ask them where is their uncle Mark Scott-Crossley

  • Vernon Mathews - 2014-12-27 19:02

JZ - embarrassment to SA....... But again 62% don't think so.....

  • Wiekus Kotze - 2014-12-27 19:15

@@@Nico Louw...Joe Slovo was not a black person but he fought against black people’s oppression by white domination. Let’s all make a contribution redressing the imbalances of the past… we as whites we must open up, this is our country, if you don’t trust that your money will be put to the cause, and then do it yourself. Call a press conference, announce that as part of a contribution this is what I am going to do and I’m calling upon fellow white South Africans to make this contribution. But why we as white we are not doing that – because we are still holding on to the past – we thinking we are superior, must remain superior and what makes us superior? It’s the big land, big money. It can’t be. It can’t be. Let’s all make a contribution. You know, many do appreciate our fellow white South Africans. In other countries when you have killed their brothers and sisters, that’s the day you stop existing in their minds. If they can get an opportunity for revenge they go for it. But those of us who saw our brothers dying, who saw blood, went before TRC and said forgive this one.

      Nico Louw - 2014-12-27 20:31

Wiekus , you have a huge problem ! It's called a inferior complex. Get over yourself look for job , get some ambition . It seems to me yourkind is what can be describe as oportunists. I however rather refer to your kind as scavengers. i am not ashamed to be white

The problem is people like Lubabalo Sam. You cannot query anything the government is doing then you're a racist. How do you build a country with such mentality.
