'Zuma must be respected'

2012-11-17 15:45

Durban - President Jacob Zuma needs to be respected as the leader of South Africa, the eThekwini ANC said on Saturday.

"We cannot allow a sitting president to be insulted," eThekwini ANC chairperson Sibongiseni Dhlomo said.

He was speaking at a regional general council held at the Durban University of Technology’s ML Sultan Campus.

Dhlomo condemned the Democratic Alliance's visit to Zuma's private home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.

"It can only be a white madam [DA leader Helen Zille] that calls the residence of a president a compound," Dhlomo said.

He also criticised the DA and other opposition parties for wanting to pass a vote of no confidence in Zuma.

"In 2009 the people of South Africa gave the ANC power to govern, they [opposition parties] lost the election. We cannot allow losers to come back through the back door," Dhlomo said.

Second term

Hundreds of delegates would name their preferred candidates for the party's top six positions ahead of ANC's national elective conference in Mangaung in December.

Earlier eThekwini region secretary Bheki Ntshangase said branches were all behind Zuma for a second term.

Hundreds of ANC delegates wore yellow and green T-shirts bearing the face of Zuma and carrying the words "100% Zuma".

The region is the African National Congress' biggest, with over 100 branches and more than 90 000 members.

KwaZulu-Natal is also Zuma's home province.

Perhaps President Zuma should desist from insulting the intellect of the average South African through his blind denialism and morally bankrupt lifestyle ....... that might be a good starting point.

I have absolute respect for Bug-eyed fat face rot-brain Zipper Zuma.

Maybe we would respect him if he behaved respectably, upheld democracy, showed leadership on strikes, encouraged investment etc.

The ANC will defend Zuma at all cost. To maintain the feeding order, they will ignore Zuma's shortcomings. They hate the idea if someone else achieving better results than what they hate Zuma's incompetence. If the DA and other parties said nothing, then the ANC would campaign against Zuma. Now they band together to bully the hated opposition.

      mike.down.5492 - 2012-11-17 16:16

If Zuma stood down he will win all our collective respect!!

      rontheogre - 2012-11-17 16:17

We only reciprocate the level of respect that Zuma shows the people that provide him with all his riches. Dhlomo has trumpeted to the world that he is as thick as a brick and does not or cannot read. Camp David and the Kennedy complexes are known as "Compounds", the Chinese top brass live in a compound according to their government censored press, the ANC's big buddy Moammar Gadhafi spoke about living in his tented compound in the desert(whose fate they will share if they continue screwing their own people). Dhlomo has also perfected his "polly wants a cracker routine" by calling Zille a Madam. Shows total lack of or incapable of original thought. See why no ANC leader or cadre has EVER received a honorary or genuine degree in Logic?

      Don.Tandy - 2012-11-17 16:17

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic Main Daily Newspaper Editorial. Someone over there has it figured out. "The danger to South Africa is not Jacob Zuma but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of a Zuma presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Zuma, who is a mere symptom of what ails South Africa. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Jacob Zuma, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.”

Respect has vanished since democracy. Thats why shower head dont respect his people and people don't respect him. Thats applies all over schools, churches and elsewhere. That overhaul respect of the human being dropped tremendously in SA.

      daniel.jacobs.3766 - 2012-11-17 23:53

      bobo.omombomboko - 2012-11-18 12:54

@werner.niksch the president has never said you can wash off AIDS in the shower. They were asking him a series of questions ... What did you do after ...? to which he replied I took a shower. Please have respect for our president! Innocent until proven guilty!

      heathway.master - 2012-11-19 02:12

Zuma has now got himself into a very serious situation. The DA or the public should insist on a full forensic audit on the Nkandla debacle. If it turns out that Zuma has lied to the Nation, legally he is liable to immediate impeachment. This is the common law of the world. He would them lose his Government pension and other related perks of an ex-President. If he is called to repeat his claims in a court of Law, he will then be guilty of Perjury, a criminal offence. I doubt whether Zuma will be oily enough to squeeze out of the deep trouble he has landed himself in by blatantly lying to the Nation. I will watch further developments with great interest.

The Zulus want their tribal leader respected as is their culture. Fine for them, but they shouldn't impose their cultural requirements on the rest of us. In the real world most people know that respect is earned.

How do you respect a man, who given the fact that he is a bigamist (granted that it is accepted in his "culture") - but still finds it necessary to sleep with his friends' daughters, one of whom has AIDS? He is also corrupt - He was declared in court to be in a corrupt relationship with our champion golfer - Shaik. Only the might of the ANC interfered with legal procedings to keep him out of court. (Doesn't say much for the separation of Government and Justice, does it?)

  • debduplessis - 2012-11-17 15:52

Bergvliet High School principal, Stephen Price's open letter to South African president Jacob Zuma....But what example do you set? Instead of building up, you break down. Lack of school sport structures, bureaucratic interference in performing schools, constant changes to curriculum, lack of text books, lack of community infrastructure and your lip service to policy that outlines wonderful aims and objectives. We couldn’t wait for you to deliver. So we did it ourselves. Our parents got involved, paid their school fees, supported our teachers, gave them benefits that you should have provided and this allowed my staff to give more and more. Do I hear the hadedas shouting ‘former Model C school’ at this point? Probably....but that’s your fault I’m afraid. You’ve not done enough to raise the level of involvement in education. We witness the collapse of the Eastern Cape Education dept, Limpopo and instead of solutions we have officials avoiding accountability, scurrying for cover and making excuses.

      stirer.kathray - 2012-11-18 09:09

there's nothing wrong with the term "compound". A compound is a collection of buildings within an enclosure. Some country embassies are described as compounds, as are university campuses. There's nothing derogatory about it, and Madam Zille is perfectly right. Zuma's compound fits the definition.

The problem is that the ANC has taken their 60% majority vote for granted, and they think this gives them a liscence to do as they please with no concequences. I hope they keep it up they are going to get a nasty surprise at the election box one of these days, just hope it's before SA has burned to the ground and not after. The blind and stupid will sooner or later realise that by voting ANC they are hitting their heads against a brick wall, and that it's not worth their while to sell out their country for an ANC t-shirt, a KFC meal and a Zuma speech

As Lau Zu said: A poor leader people despise, a good leader people praise and a great leader is he who the people say "We did it ourselves" What we need to do is to ensure that we again elect a Great Leader!!! That is up to the people.

The very people who voted for your victory are the self same people who you defraud money, housing and schooling from. The so called "losers" are at least receiving votes from people who can think. The voters who continue to vote anc,are out protesting 2 weeks after elections about non delivery,so they obviously not very brigh. A President is supposed to be worthy of respect by his sound leadership, honesty and forsight-of which Zuma has none!

Zuma needs to earn his respect and when he carries on stealing , lying, raping and doing absolutely nothing in leading this country then maybe people will start to respect him. The honest truth if he was leading the USA he would of been kicked out long time ago as they don't take crap. Zuma is an idiot and when the ANC wakes up and realizes it then maybe something will change but that will take an eternity to take place as there are to many fat cats getting their pockets filled with our tax money so of course they are going to protect him. Respect is earned and not just giving. People will respect the position of President but not the person who is serving as president

  • jay.heyns.1 - 2012-11-17 16:17

Firstly, why be insulted by the use of the word "compound"? Obviously a lack of understanding English. A compound refers to a combination of more than one, separated from the rest and combined to make one single whole, in this case several separate residences behind a fence forming one family unit. It is a compound by definition. Secondly, regarding the headline: as my dad used to say, there are only two things people MUST do: we MUST go to the toilet and we MUST eventually die. For the rest, we can choose.

      siphom.mnguni - 2012-11-17 16:24

Even George Bush at one stage it was reported during his presidency that he was on holiday in his compound. Was it racist or are so obsessed with race that we see race everywhere.

      piet.motsoeneng - 2012-11-17 16:28

Compound is an english word too big for him to comprehend. Sounds more vulgar that anything to him, so I understand him.

      michael.bushes.9 - 2012-11-17 17:08

Ag Patsy, you and your type are so naive. Jews are of middle eastern descent. JEWISH is someone who practices the faith of the jews. DING DING, do i see a light shining on your brain now?

      acm.munro - 2012-11-17 19:18

Am confused. When is a person classified as 'white' ? I thought skin colour determined this. I have many jewish friends with pale skin and straight hair .... and they will pass as 'white' in any country in the world!!!!!!

      michael.bushes.9 - 2012-11-17 20:00

@acm.munro. In South Africa, ethnic Jews, Lebanese and Taiwanese were classified as white during Apartheid, and this classification has stayed the same. Middle Eastern on an application should be included alongside whites, coloured, black and indian.

      bless.boswell - 2012-11-18 13:19

"It can only be a white madam [DA leader Helen Zille] ....." This is racism to the extreme. Most people commenting does not even notice the racist derogatory words any more. Then the ANC wants to ban words like "compound" because they see that as racist. At the same time they use direct racist words like "White Madam" This in a press statement where they DEMAND respect for the proven racist incompetent leader of the ANC!!!!!
