Zuma sends condolences to China

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma sent condolences to the government and people of China following an explosion in Tianjin in which at least 50 people were killed.

"Our thoughts are with the people of China in the aftermath of the explosion that has struck the city of Tianjin," he said in a statement on Friday.

"On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, I send my deepest condolences to the government of China, and to everyone affected, particularly to the families and friends of those killed and injured."

The blast on Wednesday killed at least 50 people and injured more than 700.

According to reports, a shipment of explosives detonated in a warehouse where it was stored.
