Johannesburg - An inquest into an accident involving President Jacob Zuma's son was postponed on Monday to give both the defence and the State time to go through the evidence.

"Mr [Gary] Mazanam [for Zuma] and I still have a lot of evidence to go through," said prosecutor Yusuf Baba.

"In the interest of justice, we would like to be afforded more time."

Baba and Mazanam were expected to present closing arguments on Monday.

Duduzane Zuma's car rear-ended Jabulani Vusi Dlamini's minibus taxi on a rainy night in February. Passenger Phumzile Dube was killed and three others were injured.

The accident happened on the M1 south off-ramp to Grayston Drive in Sandton.

David Maree, for Dube's family, and Sabelo Nobangula, for Dlamini, finished presenting their closing arguments last week.

Magistrate Lolita Chetty indicated that it would be ideal to complete the inquest before the end of this year.

She postponed the matter to 24 November.
