Zuma son still owes R1.5m

Johannesburg - The eldest son of President Jacob Zuma still owes R1.5m for his 2011 wedding, according to a report on Sunday.

The Sunday Independent reported that wedding planner Paul Mann said he instructed his attorney to attach the assets of Edward Zuma and his wife Pumelele.

"Zuma is untrustworthy, he makes countless empty promises that he can't keep, and I am just tired of him," Mann told the paper.

"I told my attorney that I am no longer interested in Zuma's stories, his lies and excuses and they should do what they need to do to get him to pay, I am tired."

Zuma paid a R1m deposit for the R2.5m wedding.

Cover the expenses

Mann told the Sunday Independent that he has had to foot the bill for some of the expenses while waiting for Zuma to pay the money he owed.

In May, Mann filed papers in the Durban High Court, ordering Edward to pay the outstanding amount and interest at a rate of 15.5% a year.

Mann said when the sheriff arrived at the Zuma's property, Zuma made a payment of R400 000 and was allowed to keep his assets.

In September the sheriff was instructed to carry out the order but Zuma asked for more time and a payment plan.

Mann's attorney told the paper that a payment plan was drafted and sent to Zuma's attorney but it has not been signed.

"We have to date never received that signed agreement ... from either Zuma or his attorney," he said.

Zuma married Phumelele Shange in October last year and their reception for 500 guests was held at the Tala Game Reserve near Camperdown.

      Armand - 2012-09-30 15:31

It runs in the family. Before daddy was president he was also constantly broke and was begging and borrowing from Shaikh to survive.

Then: "I will pay after I inherit KZN" ... Now: "Phumelele, "I told you we should have had KFC""

My advice, for starters, boy get yourself a financial adviser who would drop your at whatever \business deals\ that \ladies and gentlemen I present to you the president's son\. It might work wonders and he will pay your debts for you. Easy, neh? I call it creative thinking, but the peasants call it corruption. What a jealous lots.

I am at a loss to understand what this commenter actually is saying. Perhaps he could rephrase it for me? Why does his post have all those slashes through it? Is it a fault on News24 that is making this happen because I have seen other posts like this. Personally I only receive the first headline in the afternoon News24 Newsletter for some peculiar reason. If I wait about 15 minutes and scroll down then there are 4 pictures on the bottom on the right hand side. This has been going on like this for at least a month. Whoever is handling their software are a bunch of total IT idiots.

whell done my boy,, i see you learn well from daddy....

  • zaks2217 - 2012-09-30 18:34

This clearly says what privelages u have when ur dad is pres and also where ur priorities lie. These guys don't care abt the country or people. They care about themselves and living it up with a 2.5 mil wedding. Where did the money come from??

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-09-30 18:42

When will people learn, unless money is upfront you dont give them anything. He should have had to pay half and the other half 2 days before the wedding, no money, no fancy wedding. Simple as that. Its disgusting how these are people that have money and still want everything for nothing....african way I suppose, want everything for mahala.

  • Michael Kleber - 2012-09-30 21:09

these people are like the plague , how do we rid ourselves of them ?

  • gerrit.vanpletzen - 2012-10-01 06:29

Getting married in such a fashion, when you can't even afford it! PURE ZOOMA!

  • kooskanmar - 2012-10-01 06:37

How stupid is anyone to arrange a R2.5 mil wedding in the first place ? Not being able to pay for it is even worse. Definitely some intelligence missing in this picture.

again, more abuse of power. You are not worthy of your position there for a i will only refer to you as Zuma as you are not worthy to be called President.
