Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma was visiting former president Nelson Mandela's widow Graca Machel and other members of his family in Houghton on Friday afternoon, the ANC said.

"The president of the African National Congress, Comrade Jacob Zuma, will lead a delegation of the national executive committee of the ANC to the home of Tata Nelson Mandela this afternoon," spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.

The ANC said Zuma and the rest would pay their respects to the Mandela family. After the visit, Zuma would address the media.

Sky News reported that Mandela had arrived.

Just before midnight on Thursday, Zuma announced that Mandela, 95, had died at his Houghton residence.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe would brief the media at M1 Studios in Auckland Park, Johannesburg after Zuma had spoken in Houghton.

- Friends, colleagues, comrades and family of Nelson Mandela are invited to share their memories and tributes, and to light a candle for him, on his profile at Remembered.co.za.
