Johannesburg – A woman had acid thrown into her face during an alleged hijacking in Maraisburg on Wednesday afternoon, paramedics said.

She sustained chemical burns to her face and chest and was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital in a serious condition, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement.

She told paramedics she was parked outside a house, on The Triangle Road, when she had acid thrown into her face. Her assailants stole her car. A resident found her and helped her.
