Johannesburg – Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane has given a shining example of police work after he fended off two robbers at a spa in Rosebank.

Speaking to News24, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Phahlane was out waiting for his wife when he stopped the crime.

"The Acting National Commissioner accompanied his wife to a spa in Rosebank and was waiting [for her] in the car."

He noticed two men entering the spa wearing balaclavas and armed with pistols, Mulaudzi said.

"[The national commissioner] went into action. He fought with the two guys with the view to take away the firearms. [He] managed to ward them off and they ran away."

Mulaudzi said only one shot was fired when the two assailants were running away.

He added that no one was injured.

"The commissioner [sustained] minor injuries because of the scuffle. But he is fine."
