Cape Town – Two men accused of the fatal shooting of six-year-old Saadiqah Lippert will apply for bail next month.

There was a mood of "disbelief and anger" when Samier Slamang and Wayland Botha stood briefly in the dock of the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

"They just looked around to see if there were any familiar faces and had no emotion," Athlone Community Police Forum chairperson Aziza Kannemeyer told News24 on Friday.

She sat in court alongside Lippert’s parents, grandparents, neighbours and residents of Bokmakierie.

Adults and children protested outside to demand justice for the murdered girl.

The court was given bail information and informed that the matter would be transferred to the high court at a later stage, said Kannemeyer.

The accused, aged 22 and 26, would remain in custody in Pollsmoor Prison until their bail application on June 1.

Both were charged with the little girl's murder after witnesses identified them.

The Garlandale Primary School Grade 1 pupil was shot in the stomach when she stepped out of her grandmother's house at the beginning of May.

She later died in Groote Schuur Hospital.
