Durban - Three alleged hitmen suspected of murdering Indaka municipal manager, Sinatra Khumalo, have been arrested, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

"Two unlicensed firearms were recovered during the arrest of the suspects," said police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane.

"The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of Khumalo’s murder as well as any other crime in the country."

Khumalo, 53, was killed on July 16 this year.

He was travelling on Helpmekaar Road in Intshele when he was ambushed by three gunmen who shot and killed him, said Zwane.

The motive for the killing was not clear.

The group, aged between 27 and 30-years-old, were expected to appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
