Cape Town - An alleged murderer, along with 177 people wanted for rape were among those arrested in the Phillipi East and Nyanga areas over the weekend, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said in a statement.
"During the operations, a 30-year-old suspect was arrested after being pointed out for a murder that occurred two weeks ago in the area," said Mbalula.
Others arrested included 59 drug related offences, as well as 11 people nabbed for assault charges and 10 arrested for carjacking.
The provincial commissioner and police were congratulated by Mbalula for "squeezing the space for criminals".

"Police must show all criminals that South Africa is not a failed state. The democratic government remains in charge as per the will of the people," Mbalula said.
