Cape Town - The results of an ID parade, video footage and cellphone records will form part of the State's case against a man believed to be the Rhodes Memorial rapist.

The 35-year-old suspect appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Friday on multiple charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, rape, and robbery.

Members of the public gallery nodded in satisfaction as he confirmed he would no longer be applying for bail.

He was arrested at a hideout in Table Mountain last Saturday.

On Monday, the court heard that he had previous convictions. At the time, the State indicated it would oppose bail as he did not have a fixed address.

Initially, the man faced a charge of rape after a 23-year-old woman was accosted, raped, and robbed at the bottom of the local landmark on November 19, 2015.

The latest attack happened on Tuesday, March 8. A woman running along the Princess Ann cycling path was threatened with a knife, forced into the bushes and raped. Her rapist kept her there for hours and then made her walk with him to a petrol station. She managed to escape and was admitted to hospital.

The case was postponed to May 17.
