Johannesburg - Almost 4 000 Gauteng children are still waiting to be placed in schools, the provincial department of education said on Thursday.A total of 19 536 new applications had been received in January and, of those, 15 657 were placed in schools within two weeks, spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said."The department is satisfied with the progress made so far and believes that it has fulfilled the promise to find spaces for learners. More effort will be directed to placing all unplaced learners."Meanwhile, money still owed to exam markers would be paid in five working days. The delay was due to a "financial shortfall".
