Johannesburg – The ANC has publicly apologised to actress Vatiswa Ndara after using her image as part of its campaign for the 2016 local government elections.

During the election campaign period the party used an image of Ndara's character from the isiXhosa series Igazi, with the words "Siyanqoba, I Vote ANC" on their Instagram account.

When Ndara found out about the image circulating on social media she did not take it well, saying she was never asked for permission by the party, the Sunday Times reported at the weekend.

"Ms Ndara did not give permission for the image to be utilised, nor for her character to be associated with the ANC campaign," the party said in their apology.

The image was removed from ANC social media platforms after it became clear that Ndara was unhappy.

"The ANC unreservedly apologises to Ms Ndara for any harm our error may have caused her and we will comply with her stated request to a Sunday paper that our public apology also be posted on the ANC Instagram account."
