Cape Town - The ANC has congratulated its former deputy secretary general Thandi Modise on her appointment as chancellor of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

It also congratulated national executive committee member Edna Molewa for her appointment in the same position at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

"These are considerable achievements – indicative of the calibre of leadership that exists within the ranks of the ANC," the national ANC said in a statement on Friday.

"The ANC extends its best wishes and congratulations to comrades Molewa and Modise [who we believe will] work tirelessly with the faculty and student communities of their institutions to realise the quest for academic excellence and transformative possibilities in higher education."
