ANC parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says EFF supporters must judge their MPs based on their conduct.WATCH

Cape Town - ANC in Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo has resigned after 12 years in the chief whip's office.

“The office of the ANC Chief Whip regretfully announces the resignation of comrade Moloto Mothapo as head of media and communications and spokesperson for the ANC in Parliament,” the party said in a statement on Wednesday.

He joined the ANC parliamentary caucus in 2005 and served under seven different chief whips with dedication and uncompromising loyalty.

The resignation is effective from February 14.

ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu said Moloto had been an invaluable part of the ANC caucus.

“We wish him the very best in future endeavours he wishes to explore. He can rely on our support wherever the future leads him,” Mthembu said.

An announcement about his replacement would be made soon.

Mothapo told eNCA on Wednesday that his resignation had nothing to do with the ANC’s leadership and was for personal and professional reasons.

He intended disclosing what his plans were in the coming weeks.
