Durban – ANC chief whip in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature, Senzo Mkhize, has died, the party confirmed on Saturday.

Provincial ANC spokesperson Mhlabunzima Memela said Mkhize died on Friday.

“We are on our way to the family to mourn with them,” he said.

He is understood to have died following a long illness.

The South African Communist Party’s provincial Secretary Themba Mthembu in a statement described Mkhize as an “outstanding revolutionary, a selfless and dedicated cadre, respected and admired leader of the people”.

“With his incisive mind, sharp wit and easy humour, Comrade Senzo’s passing leaves a huge void in the ANC, its alliance partners and the provincial legislature,” he said.
