Cape Town – The ANC Western Cape’s provincial secretary, Faiez Jacobs, has been found guilty of assault by the party’s national disciplinary committee (NDC).

In a statement on Wednesday, NDC chairperson, Derek Hanekom, said Jacobs had been found guilty of fighting with and assaulting former ANC employee, Wesley Seale, at the ANC's provincial offices in November last year.

He has been suspended for 18 months. The sanction, however, has been suspended for three years.

“The NDC took into account that Faiez Jacobs regretted his action and is capable of being rehabilitated,” Hanekom said.

Expulsion or outright suspension would be too harsh, the party said.

Vacate position

“Consequently, the operation of the 18-month sanction was suspended for a period of three years, subject to the condition that should Faiez Jacobs be found guilty of any act of misconduct specified in the ANC Constitution during the next three years, the 18 month sanction shall become operative and Faiez Jacobs will be required to vacate his position as the provincial secretary of the ANC in the Western Cape,” the committee said.

Jacobs was first placed on precautionary suspension in December 2015 after being accused of beating up a colleague for failing to write a report on the organisation.

The NDC also said the Western Cape ANC should enlist the help of religious groups and professionals in the province to reinforce unity and strengthen governance in the organisation.
