Durban – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal accepted Premier Senzo Mchunu’s resignation and nominated deputy chairperson, Willies Mchunu, to succeed him, the party said on Monday night.

“The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has received, considered and accepted the resignation of Edward Senzo Mchnu from the position of premier of our province.

“This decision by comrade Mchunu followed a detailed assessment of the state of governance in the province and extensive consultation with the National Executive Committee,” said provincial secretary Super Zuma.

The ANC provincial officials met with Mchunu on Friday to convey the decision of the movement which he accepted with a great humility exemplified of his conduct in the movement for many years, said Zuma.

The party paid tribute to Mchunu who will be deployed to the National Assembly.

“We also wish him well in his new responsibilities...”

The party called for the people of KwaZulu-Natal to accept the decision made by Mchunu.

Zuma said the party nominated provincial deputy chairperson Willies Mchunu to be the next Premier of the province.

“We have chosen Willies Mchunu because of his seniority, experience and skills demonstrated over many years of service in government and our movement in general.”
