Port Elizabeth - Many ANC supporters had spent the night outside the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth ahead of the ruling party's launch of its 2016 local government manifesto on Saturday, according to a spokesperson.

"As early as last night, scores of enthusiastic supporters dressed in the black, green and gold of the party faithful have been camping out outside the stadium gates in anticipation of today's events, braving the formidable Port Elizabeth wind," said national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa.

"Since dawn hundreds of people have been queuing outside the stadium where the ANC will unveil our people-centred blueprint towards the August municipal elections."

Buses and taxis had been ferrying people to the stadium.

Dressed in the bright gold t-shirts with a picture of President Jacob Zuma printed on them, the crowds began filling the orange and red chairs in the stadium.

Kodwa said they were expecting over a 100 000 supporters to attend the event.
