Bloemfontein - The ANC Women's League was on Thursday hopeful that the Supreme Court of Appeal would overturn the High Court's decision to convict Oscar Pistorius of culpable homicide.

"Today we are expecting good results, especially on the review of the sentence and that it will go in the favour of the family. We want to see justice done," said Free State ANC Women League chairperson Mapaseka Nkoane.

"Oscar should receive 15 years imprisonment," Nkoane told News24 outside the Bloemfontein court.

She said even if things did not go their way, they would still respect the court's decision.

The ANCWL has closely followed the trial and expressed support for the family of Pistorius's slain girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius shot and killed Steenkamp behind a locked toilet door at his home on Valentine’s Day last year.

He said he had mistaken her for an intruder.

If Pistorius, who is currently under correctional supervision at his uncle's home in Pretoria, is convicted of murder, he will probably have to go back to jail and face a harsher sentence.
