Johannesburg – The African National Congress Women's League will next week launch the Young Women's Desk, the party said on Friday.

The Young Women's Desk is an initiative born out of the league's previous conference solutions.

National spokesperson Thoko Xasa said the launch event, to be held January 7 in Bloemfontein, would bring together over 5 000 delegates aged between 18 and 40 from all nine provinces.

These include women in business, academia, students, civil society, youth league members and other structures.

"The Young Women's Desk structure will ensure that programmes around political and socio-economic development of young women are addressed to the fullest," Xasa said in a statement.

She said the league would continue to play a leading role in transformation, "especially on issues that our heroines mam' Lilian Ngoyi, Getrude Shope, Charlotte Maxeke and many fought for", including the struggle against patriarchy both in the movement and in society.
