Johannesburg - Comments by ANC Youth League leader Collen Maine that President Jacob Zuma must execute a "massive" Cabinet reshuffle are extremely reckless, the Young Communist League said on Saturday.

"The statements and utterances made by individuals leading the ANCYL in the name of the organisation are extremely reckless and reflect a display of young people who are being used by factions in pursuit of the narrow interests of parasitic capitalists," spokesperson Khaya Xaba said.

He called on the mother body to step in and address the divisive manner in which its youth wing was conducting itself or else the ANC, as well as its alliance with the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) and SA Communist Party (SACP) would suffer.

"Divisions and the breakdown of the ANC and the alliance will not serve the interests of the national democratic revolution. It can only cause serious problems," Xaba said.

"There are a number of ministers who have to go because we don't owe them anything. The ANC does not owe them anything."

Maine said the youth league wanted to meet Zuma to "tell him who we think should be reshuffled".

Speculation is rife that there will be another Cabinet reshuffle soon.

It has been reported that Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe and Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies might be in the firing line.

Maine said a Cabinet reshuffle should be about strengthening government and was part of the president's powers.

"Any deployee of the ANC, irrespective of how beautiful or ugly you are, if you don't perform or execute your responsibilities you must be reshuffled."

He said government was not like a traditional institution.

"In traditional institutions you don't get to be removed because you [are] born being a chief and, when you die, you pass [that] on to your family.

"Deployment in the ANC does not work like that and... none of us [is] immune from reshuffling," Maine said.
