Limpopo - Police have arrested another suspect in Westenburg, Polokwane in connection with a double murder in the early hours of New Year’s Day, police confirmed.

The arrest brings to three the number of suspects nabbed for the incident.

The killing occurred in an extension of Greenside, outside Polokwane. A 20-year-old man died, along with an unknown man, following an argument.

It is unclear what the argument was about, police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe told News24 that the three men were arrested on two counts of murder.

"It is alleged that two groups of men, one from Extension 44 and the other one from Extension 71 had arguments and started to fight each other using different assortments of objects, until two people from one group were killed instantly," a police statement read.

Police are continuing investigations and the suspects, aged between 20 and 23, are to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
