Pretoria- Matriculants were feeling a mixture of anxiety and excitement as they waited for the announcement of the 2015 matric results later on Tuesday.

- Matric results will be available from Wednesday on News24

The final touches were being applied at the Vodacom Dome in Midrand, where the country's top achieving matriculants would be honoured. Pupils in the school uniforms were busy rehearsing for the show. Many looked nervous.

Phindulo Mphaphudi said he could not wait to get his results.

"I'm really excited. I'm very curious about the night," he said.

Mphaphudi was one of 21 pupils who would join Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga at the announcement of the national pass rate at 18:00.

At least 21 top-performing pupils would be at the event with their families to receive recognition for their hard work.

There was heavy security outside the venue.

On December 30, quality monitoring body Umalusi said the pass rate for 2015 was worse than the previous year's.

Provincial results would be released on Wednesday morning.
