Cape Town – A head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a bakkie in the Free State on Friday morning left at least 10 people dead and seven injured.

Six people burned to death after the taxi caught alight, while three children found outside the vehicle were also killed, according to the Free State Department of Health's Facebook page.

The driver of the bakkie, a local farmer, also died.

The post said seven people were transported to hospital.

It is believed the accident took place near Zastron.

Paramedics were said to be doing all they could to extricate bodies from the mangled remains of the vehicles.
