Durban – Six school children were killed and 20 people injured when two taxis collided near Dalton, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday afternoon, paramedics said.

When paramedics arrived at the scene at 17:00, one taxi was found on fire and another ripped apart, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie told News24

In a statement, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the victims are believed to be between 13 and 15 years old. 

Two people are in a critical condition. One of them, a school child, was placed on life support.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known. Local authorities were at the scene for further investigation.
